Welcome to Wolfeboro

With its quintessential New England charm, a walkable downtown, and a friendly, laid-back vibe, Wolfeboro is beloved by full-time residents, vacationers, retirees, and celebrities. Many well-known people have resided in Wolfeboro; Colonial Governor John Wentworth, Madame Chiang Kai-shek, Mitt Romney, and the Marriot family to name a few. It’s easy to see why this enchanting small town is called “The Jewel of Lake Winnipesaukee.”

For lakeside dining, it’s tough to beat Wolfeboro. Here you can find some of the best outdoor dining destinations in New Hampshire, including Garwoods, Wolfetrap Grill and Raw Bar, O Bistro, Pavilion, and the Downtown Grille Cafe. If you’re always on a quest for that one-of-a-kind treasure, Wolfeboro is also a great place for shopping and antiquing in small, locally-owned boutiques.

Wolfeboro is known as “America’s Oldest Summer Resort”, and in the warmer season it truly comes alive. Locals and tourists alike can be seen strolling the waterfront with ice cream, enjoying live music at Cate Park, or indulging in all of the lake’s summer outdoor activities. Wolfeboro has 4 town beaches, with shoreline on Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Wentworth, and Crescent Lake. There is breathtaking scenery around every corner, and delightfully easy water access for swimming, waterskiing, and paddle sports. The town docks make it a breeze to set sail on lake adventures, and the Great Waters summer concert series is an absolute must-do in July and August.

Back on land, the town’s 11-mile Cotton Valley Rail Trail is a favorite of joggers and cyclists. Kingwood Golf Course, an 18-hole Donald Ross course, is the local favorite and is walking distance from town. There is even horseback riding available at High Meadows Farms.

Although winters are quieter, there are still countless exciting things to do, whether it’s ice fishing, skating, or the Last Night Celebration on New Year’s Eve. Not to mention the numerous nearby ski mountains; if you don’t ski already, you might be tempted to start! Abenaki, King Pine, Cranmore, and Gunstock ski resorts are all less than an hour away.

Wolfeboro is also known for its schools, both private and public, and is home to Brewster Academy.

When it comes to real estate, many non-waterfront homes are moderately priced, and residents enjoy relatively low real estate taxes.
