Nestled between Lake Winnipesaukee, Squam Lake, and the Ossipee Mountains, Moultonborough is an idyllic rural community that boasts more miles of lakeshore than any other town in New Hampshire.

Scenic and quiet, Moultonborough is very popular with retirees and second home buyers, but is also a year-round residence for many. Families are drawn to the small town pace of life and the desirable schools, which offer an array of options for arts, foreign languages and other electives, as well as fantastic sports programs.

Naturally, outdoor activities are a huge draw here in any season, and the opportunities for fresh air fun are limitless. Dozens of outstanding hiking trails are close at hand. Mt. Shaw – the highest point in Moultonborough – offers a wooded mountain atmosphere with stunning vistas of the lake. The popular Red Hill fire tower loop also has stunning views, and there are no less than seven waterfalls on Brook Walk.

Bald Peak Country Club, the only private lakeside club in New Hampshire, is located in Moultonborough. Members enjoy community and an impressive list of social and sporting events. This club was built for the Lakes Region’s active lifestyle, offering tennis, golf, bridge and more on 1,000 acres of pristine land.

For aquatic adventures, Moultonborough has shoreline on Lake Kanasatka, Lees Pond, and Wakondah Pond, in addition of course to Lake Winnipesaukee, where you will find two town beaches and three boat launch facilities. Whether your passion is boating, fishing, swimming or paddlesports, the water is always within arm’s reach in Moultonborough.

The quaint village district hosts the public library and a few locally-owned businesses including the Old Country Store; one of the oldest retail establishments in the US and a fantastic place to treasure hunt for anything from jams and cheeses to jewelry and unique gifts.

Moultonborough is known for being the home to the famous Castle in the Clouds, a beautiful Arts and Crafts mountaintop estate that’s now open to the public as a museum and popular wedding venue. Dining at the adjacent Carriage House Restaurant is a singular experience; guests enjoy creative fare on the terrace accompanied by spectacular mountain views and live music in the summertime. Other local Moultonborough favorites include The Bob House, The New Woodshed, and The Village Kitchen.

When it comes to real estate – As you might imagine with so much shoreline, about half the homes sold every year in Moultonborough are waterfront properties. Generally the market tends to be fairly competitive. Importantly, Moultonborough has the lowest property taxes of any town on Lake Winnipesaukee.
